Signal Extenders for your DJI Drone… yes or no?

So, this is a question we get asked and see asked in forums on a regular basis!  Do those little signal extenders that sit on your remote control actually work at extending the signal for your DJI drone.

Signal Extenders for the DJI Spark, DJI Mavic Air
Signal Boosters 1

We can only talk from our experience obviously – but, yes the signal extenders do work!  Our thoughts though are below! 🙂

On the DJI Spark and DJI Mavic Air –

When we fly our DJI Spark and DJI Mavic Air, we have found (and had feedback from customers) that the signal between your drone and remote can start to get a bit fuzzy anywhere in between 200m and 500m.   This signal drop out results in patchy video coming back to the device, and will also sometimes see the drone drop out of signal.

On both the DJI Spark and DJI Mavic Air we have found based upon our own testing that the signal extenders have hugely improved performance here!

On the flip side…

When we fly our DJI Mavic Pro and the DJI Mavic 2 Pro (so would be the same for the Mavic 2 Zoom), given both run versions of Occusync by DJI the signal runs pretty well – without needing to extend the signal.   Whilst the signal extenders may provide additional benefit – for most peoples flying, it would really not be necessary in our view!

(We also sell TWO versions of these – there is a version with just the signal extenders, but also a version with signal extenders and a sunhood that will suit most mobile phones as well 🙂 )

Just a note on using the signal extenders as well though – always make sure the remote (and subsequently the signal extenders) is facing the direction of your drone.   Don’t fly your drone behind you, as the signal extenders are capturing the signal from the forward facing direction.   Hopefully that makes sense!

I’m not into all the ‘technical’ how things work when it comes to signals, so just write from our own experience here – and feedback we have had from customers along the way.   Everyone’s experience will vary – depending upon the conditions and environment they are flying etc.

Please note!

Also – please always bear in mind the rules from the relevant authorities, whether it be CASA and local governments in Australia, or the comparative organisations in other countries for rules around visual line of sight, or maximum flight distances that may be allowed!

Welcome to Drone Accessories Australia

We started our business in 2017, after we bought a DJI Spark, and struggled to find accessories available in Australia that weren’t price effective or had any variety.

On a mission, we made some overseas contacts and ordered a small amount of stock to sell on Gumtree just to customers here in Perth.  Stock sold out quickly, and on a whim, we thought we would setup a facebook page and shopify store and just see what happened!

Here we are a year later, having gone from selling 20 products to over 150 products (and growing each week), investing in equipment to deliver what our customers have been looking for (high end printing to make decals, creating safety gear, customisations on products), whilst also selling the basic needs of drone owners – such as carry cases, filters, car chargers, batteries and so on.

We have way too many drones in our house, now with a Spark, Mavic Air, Mavic Pro Platinum and the new Mavic 2 Pro – all here to test and make sure the accessories we buy in, or make, are going to be the best for your uses!    (and maybe a little flying of them as well in the process! 🙂 )

So – now we have a new website, along with a blog.   Not too sure how this new venture will go just yet – but we will try, starting with our information on some of our products and why we see them as important for drone owners.
