DJI have several remotes, and making sure you know which one you are using will make it easier to select the right accessories, and make sure the remote you have is compatible with your drone! As we get lots of questions, and with new remotes being released – we figured a bit of a ‘which remote do I have’ guide might be handy!
If at any stage you are not sure if a product is compatible with the device you have, or the remote you have – please reach out! We are happy to provide assistance on compatible products to make sure you receive what you need.
So here goes… We will start with the newest remotes, and work our way backwards.
The DJI RC2 Remote – released in July 2023, this remote is the updated version of the DJI RC – it has antennae that unfold from the top (the previous version were all inbuilt). The RC2 is compatible with the DJI Air 3 and the DJI Mini 4 Pro. The RC2 can also handle an External Display – via the USB-C port in the base (for example, we pair ours with a FeelWorld Display and the LifThor Freya mount). The external display replicates the image only – it is not providing additional control for the remote.
The DJI RC-N2 Remote – released in July 2023 also, is an updated version of the RC-N1. It has the exact same form factor as the RC-N1 however they are NOT cross compatible. The RC-N2 works with the DJI Air 3 and the DJI Mini 4 Pro. This remote has no display however you can use your own mobile device either in the holder on the remote or there is a wide range of phone and tablet holders also available.
The DJI RC Remote – this remote control has been released in May 2022, along side the DJI Mini 3 Pro drone. It has a display, but is a simpler remote than some of the others on the market for the higher end drones. At time of writing – the DJI RC is compatible with the Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 3 series, DJI Air 2s, Mini 3 Pro and Mini 3 drones.
The DJI RC Pro Remote – released in around October 2021, along with the DJI Mavic 3 range. It initially came standard with the Cine version, but is now available stand alone and with the standard DJI Mavic 3 as well. Currently compatible with the Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 3 series, DJI Air 2s and DJI Mini. 3 Pro. This remote has a lot more functionality, and a brighter screen than the DJI RC – but is also a lot more expensive!
The DJI RC-N1 Remote – released inline with the DJI Air 2, this is compatible with the Mavic 3 Pro, DJI Air 2, Air 2s, Mini 2, Mavic 3 series,DJI Mini 3 Pro, DJI Mini 3, and the DJI Mini 2 SE. This remote has NO display, but you can easily use a smart phone connected in – or with an option tablet holder – a tablet to allow a larger display.
The DJI Smart Controller Remote – getting a bit older now, this was the initial ‘remote with display’ that DJI released to be compatible with the DJI Mavic 2 series (both the pro and the zoom), and then was also compatible with the DJI Air 2, Air 2s and Mini 2. These are now END OF LIFE from DJI – so finding new product is quite difficult – but lots around second hand
